Nick Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 (edited) Is it worth upgrading the speakers in a MK3 new galaxy? Can anyone recommend a make/style? Cheers Edited August 6, 2007 by Nick Quote
Smilge Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Well there's a first! ....... Mk 3 Galaxy with crap speakers ..... did Ford ask anybody what they thought about the sound quality from their head units? I can recommend Sony speakers Nick ....... I fitted 4 Sony XSF1727's which are basically dual concentric with about 30W RMS output power. Just find out what the diameter of speaker you require and also the depth as they obviously have to fit into the door. The Mk 2 uses 17cm which fit perfectly. Hope this helps. Quote
mk3nick Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Well now that I have my new car, I'm happy with the stock speakers. They sound just fine right up to max volume. Quote
GaryM Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Stock head unit is not much cop either. If you are running this I'd swap it first then move on to the speakers. Swapped my 6 disk ford one out for a Ford/Sony MP3 unit much better. The upgraded the front speakers for Focals. Quote
Nick Posted March 27, 2008 Author Report Posted March 27, 2008 The Sony was the standard fit on my build. Great sound, huge bass no distortion. I'll stick with the fitted speakers. Enjoy! Quote
morellomax Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 I have the factory Sony in my S-Max. I recommend upgrading the front tweeters first: I put in some JL Audio VR ones, then some XR ones. Both really opened the sound up. Replacing the woofers in a Mk3 can be a pain in the ****, as they are a combined speaker and mounting. Not worth doing, as the premium factory woofers are good enough, especially if you add a separate amp and split out the lowest frequencies to a sub. Quote

Can anyone tell me what size speakers you can fit in the Mk3 for the front and rear doors + the tweerers. (I have an 07 plate if it make any difference) Quote
GSMGuy Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Personally, I am pretty disappointed with the audio quality in my 09 S-Max Titanium (DAB high end, apparently with "premium" speakers according to Etis) Coming from my XC90, which had the optional Dolby Pro Logic set up, with TWO subwoofers in the rear compartment, the sound was FANTASTIC, even if the FM reception was crap.... Thinking about a sub to go in the rear underfloor compartment, as it's the Bass that I am missing most... Anyone done this? The fitted speakers seem to handle the power and mid/highs fine, so a nice sub should sort me out! Mike Quote
caimbeul Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 BUMP: Has been a while with no reply, now one of the middle speakers has completely blown, effecting all music. Can someone please let me know what size speakers can be fitted to the front and rear (3 seat row) + tweaters. Many thanks Quote
caimbeul Posted November 6, 2011 Report Posted November 6, 2011 Bump - Anyone. Believe it or not Ford cant tell me and neither can a google search. Quote
Tomoose Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 17cm front and back (according to Ford accessories brochure), although I don't think its as simple as that due to how they are mounted. Quote
